Our Urology clinic offers advanced treatment options for a wide range of male and female urological conditions, including many minimally invasive procedures.
Urethral dilatation: A minimally invasive procedure that treats scarring in the urethra, that may be the result of an infection, inflammation or trauma. The urethra is widened with thin rods or via a balloon that inflates slowly. A urethrotomy is a type of urethral dilation in which a surgeon cuts away the scar tissue to widen the urethra.
Urethral catheters: These are thin, flexible tubes that are put in the urethra to hold it open if it has become blocked. They are commonly used to allow urine to flow out the urethra if a ureteral or kidney stone has been blocking it.
Cystoscopy: A cystoscope is inserted into the bladder, and small, surgical instruments are passed through it to treat problems such as bladder stones and urinary blockages, or to inject medication into the bladder.
Laser lithotripsy: A procedure that uses a laser to break up stones within the urinary system (stones in the kidney, bladder, ureters or urethra). A thin, flexible laser fiber is inserted through a tube with a camera on it which breaks the stones, and they are then removed with other instruments.
Bladder neck incision: If a tight bladder neck or enlarged prostate are making it difficult to pass urine, a bladder neck incision may be performed. This involves inserting a scope into the urethra and cutting or removing the excess tissue using an electrical current (diathermy).
