Cardiology Diagnosis

Diagnosis of cardiac conditions

Mubadala Health Dubai’s internationally trained cardiologists are experts in the diagnosis of a wide range of heart conditions and diseases. Using state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and the latest cardiovascular technology, we support every patient with an accurate diagnosis, ensuring the right treatment or disease management plan can begin straight away.

We offer a full range of cardiac tests and procedures used to diagnose heart conditions, including:

Blood tests

A number of blood tests may be performed to rule out other possible causes of heart symptoms. Blood tests can also measure how the levels of different substances may be affecting your heart, or monitor your response to heart medication.

Electrocardiogram

Also known as an ECG, an electrocardiogram is a quick, non-invasive test that records your heart’s electrical activity via electrodes. It can show what is happening in different parts of the heart and can identify any problems with the rate or rhythm of your heart.

Ambulatory electrocardiogram monitoring

In some cases, an ECG may need to be carried out for a longer period. In this case, the electrodes are connected to a small box which you carry around via a belt which records any abnormalities over a 24-hour period.

Echocardiogram

Also called an echo, an echocardiogram is a scan of the heart. An ultrasound, which uses high frequency sound waves, creates an image of your heart which a cardiologist uses to check for any abnormalities. An echo can check the size of your heart, how well the muscle contracts and relaxes, and how well the valves are working.

Cardiac stress test

Also called an exercise tolerance or treadmill test, a cardiac stress test is similar to an electrocardiogram, but records the heart’s activity when it is working harder. You will be asked to walk on a treadmill and the electrocardiogram can show doctors how well your heart is responding to the stress of exercise.

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring

Blood pressure (BP) is a key measurement when assessing cardiac conditions. An ambulatory BP monitor is attached to you and connected via a cuff around your upper arm to monitor your BP over a longer period. It provides a more reliable and accurate measurement of your BP and valuable diagnostic information.

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

An MRI is an imaging tool that uses a magnetic field to produce detailed pictures of the heart and its blood vessels. It is a useful diagnostic tool when there are problems with the heart’s structure or its blood supply.
