• Allergies: Caused by environmental triggers, allergies are more common in children today than ever before. Talk to your doctor about ways to relieve your child’s allergies. Treatments include antihistamines or nasal sprays. For severe allergies, an ‘EpiPen’ may be prescribed. At Mubadala Health Dubai, we offer a range of allergy tests and immunology treatments.
• Asthma: Wheezing and tightness in the chest are signs of asthma, caused by inflammation in the airways. Understanding triggers is important in managing asthma. An inhaler can be given to relieve symptoms.
• Colds and flu: Both are caused by common viruses and are highly contagious. While the common cold is often mild and can be treated at home, influenza is a much more serious illness. Always get your child vaccinated every flu season.
• Ear infections: Caused by viruses, ear infections are common but can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Some may go away on their own, but others may require medications.
• Eczema: Red rashes on the skin which are extremely itchy. Eczema is not contagious and can be caused by environmental factors such as irritants or temperature. Corticosteroid cream may be prescribed in severe cases.
• Gastroenteritis: Stomach flu (which causes vomiting and diarrhea) is caused by a viral infection in the stomach or gut.
• Hand, foot and mouth disease: Highly contagious, the common condition is caused by an infectious virus. Treatment isn’t usually needed but you must have it diagnosed and keep your child off school or nursery to stop the infection spreading.
• Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV): This virus can lead to serious breathing problems and bronchiolitis which is inflammation of the airways. In severe cases, it can lead to pneumonia and hospitalization.
• Strep throat: This is a bacterial infection which is highly contagious, being spread via coughs and sneezes. Strep throat can be very painful. It is usually treated with antibiotics.
• Urinary tract infections
• Skin infections
• Upper respiratory infections like tonsillitis and pharyngitis
• Behavioral problems like temper tantrums, hyperactivity, bedwetting.
• Constipation and associated problems
• Endocrine disorders like hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism and short stature
