Dr. Biborka Bereczky is a highly accomplished Consultant Surgeon with over 22 years of experience in general, advanced laparoscopic, bariatric & metabolic, robotic, minimally invasive, and laser surgery. She is widely recognized for her clinical excellence, academic contributions, and dedication to medical education.
A graduate of Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, Dr. Bereczky received her board certification in General Surgery in 2010 and earned her Ph.D. in Molecular Oncology in the same year. Her doctoral research focused on hematogenous and lymphogenous dissemination in preclinical cancer models.
Dr. Bereczky served at the 2nd Department of General Surgery, Semmelweis University, where she was appointed Assistant Professor in 2011. She is the author or co-author of 37 peer-reviewed publications with a cumulative impact factor exceeding 43 and has presented at 91 international conferences with 57 lectures and 34 posters. Her academic work has earned her prestigious fellowships in Japan, the UK, Austria, Italy, Turkey, and the UAE.
She holds a GMC license in the UK (on the GMC Specialist Register since 2018) and completed a one-year Royal College of Surgeons-accredited fellowship in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton, UK. During this period, she also obtained the Certificate of Individual Competency in Upper GI Endoscopy (JAG-accredited, London).
Before joining Mubadala Health Dubai, Dr. Bereczky’s UAE career included five years at Dubai Hospital, Dubai Health Authority, where she contributed to the Bariatric, Breast, Wound Management, and General Surgery teams. From 2019 onward, she has served as a Consultant Surgeon at Mediclinic Dubai Mall, Mediclinic City Hospital, and Mediclinic Parkview Hospital. She is also the Clinical Lead for the Bariatric Research Program focused on obesity and weight reduction.
Dr. Bereczky has completed fellowships in Advanced Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery (AZ Sint-Jan Hospital, Belgium), Proctology, and Robotic Surgery (Da Vinci Xi system), achieving international certification from Intuitive Surgical in Kiel, Germany.
She joined MBRU as Adjunct Associate Professor in 2019, where she also serves as Year 4 Undergraduate Surgery Discipline Coordinator and STAR-award educator. She is a regular faculty member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Basic Surgical Skills Course at MBRU.
