Andrology Diagnosis and Treatment

Diagnosing male reproductive conditions

Our Urology clinic offers the latest diagnostic technology to diagnose concerns affecting the male reproductive system. Diagnostic tests and procedures include:

  • Blood tests: Including prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and male hormones (FSH, LH, and testosterone).
  • Biopsies: A biopsy is the removal of a sample of tissue for investigation in a laboratory. A prostate biopsy involves removing samples from the prostate gland with a needle and looking for signs of abnormalities. The procedure may be needed if other tests, such as a PSA test, or a physical examination, indicate you may have prostate cancer.
  • Doppler sonography: This is a type of non-invasive ultrasound that can measure blood flow through blood vessels. It can be used to evaluate erectile problems, allowing doctors to see whether the problem is caused by a vascular or nonvascular issue.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): An imaging study that produces pictures with magnets and radio waves. An advanced type of MRI called a multiparametric MRI can give more detailed images of the prostate and is used if prostate cancer is suspected. It can also be used to guide biopsies and allows doctors to see if the cancer has spread beyond the prostate.
  • Ultrasonography: This is a diagnostic sonography technique that uses ultrasound-based diagnostic imaging to see soft tissues inside the body.

Treating male reproductive conditions

We offer advanced treatment options for male reproductive problems, including many office-based, minimally invasive procedures.

  • Microsurgical varicocelectomy: A procedure to remove a varicocele, a condition in which the veins in the scrotum are enlarged. The procedure can reduce pain and improve fertility.
  • Robotic microscope assisted microsurgical varicocelectomy: The only center in the GCC offering this type of procedure, this innovative treatment offers enhanced precision, reduced risk, and a faster recovery for patients.
  • Epididymal cyst excision: An epididymal cyst is a lump in the coiled tube behind the testicles. If the cyst is causing symptoms, it may be removed via an incision in the scrotum.
  • Excision hydrocele: A hydrocele is a fluid-filled sac near the testicle which can cause swelling. Hydrocelectomy is the removal of the hydrocele by making an incision in or near the scrotum.
  • Orchidopexy: Surgery to move an undescended testicle down into the scrotum.
  • Penile prothesis: A penile implant is a surgically implanted device which helps with erectile dysfunction. The implants can be inflatable, which use a pump in the scrotum to achieve an erection when needed, or non-inflatable, which are bendable silicone rods.
  • Testicular prosthesis: These are implants that are put into an empty scrotum if the testicle is missing or has been removed.
  • Orchiectomy: The surgical removal of the testes, this procedure is performed to treat testicular cancer.

Enlarged prostate

Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) or benign prostate enlargement (BPE) is characterized by an enlarged prostate, a condition very common in men. Advanced, minimally invasive treatment options include:

  • Laser vaporization: A laser vaporizes away the excess prostate tissue and enlarges the urinary channel.
  • UroLift: The blocked urethra is opened by lifting the prostate tissue out of the way with implants.
  • Rezum: Water vapor (steam) is delivered to the prostate tissue to remove the enlarged part.

Erectile dysfunction

We have a range of treatment options to address erectile dysfunction (ED) including medications, injections, and penile prosthesis. We also offer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections and low-intensity shockwave therapy (LISWT), for mild to moderate cases of ED.
