Rheumatology Conditions Treated

Rheumatic diseases we treat

Our Rheumatology clinic in Dubai offers a comprehensive range of services to people living with rheumatic diseases and musculoskeletal disorders. Those include inflammatory forms of arthritis, connective tissue and autoimmune diseases, which in addition to affecting the bones, joints and muscles, can affect various parts of the body.

Rheumatic disorders treated at Mubadala Health Dubai’s Rheumatology center include, but are not limited to:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis: A chronic, autoimmune disease that causes joint pain, stiffness, and swelling.
  • Psoriatic arthritis: An autoimmune disease that results in inflammation of the skin and the joints. This type of arthritis typically affects individuals who have psoriasis (an autoimmune condition of the skin).
  • Ankylosing spondylitis: A form of arthritis that affects the joints in the spine.
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus: A chronic autoimmune disease that causes systemic inflammation which affects multiple organs. In addition to affecting the skin and joints, it can affect other organs in the body such as the kidneys, the tissue lining the lungs (pleura), heart (pericardium), and brain. Systemic lupus erythematosus is the most common form of lupus.
  • Systemic sclerosis (scleroderma): A condition that results in the progressive thickening and tightening of the skin and can cause inflammation and scarring of other body parts.
  • Sjögren’s syndrome: An autoimmune disease which may cause chronic dry mouth or eyes and can also affect other body organ systems.
  • Gout: A form of arthritis that causes inflammation after a substance called uric acid crystallizes in the joints. 
  • Osteoarthritis: A form of arthritis that develops when tissues in the joints, called cartilage, wear down. 
  • Vasculitis: A group of diseases characterized by inflammation in the blood vessels (the arteries and veins). 
  • Inflammatory myositis (such as polymyositis and dermatomyositis): Conditions that cause inflammation of the muscles.
  • Autoinflammatory syndromes such as Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF): FMF is a genetic disorder that causes recurrent episodes of fever that are typically accompanied by pain in the abdomen, chest, or joints.
  • Osteoporosis: A condition that causes loss of bone mass (measured as bone density) and changes in bone structure.
  • Tendinitis and bursitis which result from inflammation or degeneration (breakdown) of the soft tissue around muscles and bones.
  • Fibromyalgia: A condition that causes widespread pain and extreme tenderness in many areas of the body. Many patients also experience fatigue, sleep disturbances, headaches, and mood disturbances such as depression and anxiety.
