Diagnosis & Treatment of Orthopedic Conditions

Diagnosing Orthopedic Conditions

Our orthopedic doctors are here to assist with the screening and diagnosis of orthopedic conditions, utilizing a range of routine and advanced techniques. Some tests are used to determine the exact location of a condition, and its severity, while others can be used to understand the exact cause of the symptoms.

At your first appointment with our orthopedic surgeons, your symptoms will be discussed, your medical history will be reviewed, and you will be asked about any family history of orthopedic conditions. Doctors will perform a physical examination and imaging tests like X rays, which can sometimes confirm a diagnosis of orthopedic conditions. Other diagnostic tests may be needed, including:

  • Biopsies
  • Blood tests
  • Bone scan
  • CT scan
  • Flexibility tests
  • Gait analysis
  • MRI scan
  • Nerve conduction tests
  • Stress tests
  • Ultrasound.

Treating orthopedic conditions

The treatment you receive will depend on the specific condition diagnosed. Many minor orthopedic conditions can be treated with over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication, postural and lifestyle adjustments, and by resting the affected area. More severe conditions might need prescription drugs, steroid injections or physical therapy. Sometimes, surgery is required.

Our orthopedic surgeons offer a personalized and effective treatment plan, to meet your specific needs.

Common treatments for orthopedic conditions include

  • Anti-rheumatic drugs: To treat arthritis and osteoarthritis (used in combination with pain relief).
  • Braces and splints: To provide support to the affected joints.
  • Rest: Together, rest, ice, compression and elevation can offer relief for many conditions.
  • Injections: A treatment for many orthopedic conditions.
  • Surgery: Offered if other treatment methods haven’t been successful or if the condition is difficult to manage.
