Dr. Favas Thaivalappil is a highly experienced consultant specializing in pulmonology and sleep medicine, with a career spanning over 14 years.
He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in General Internal Medicine from Kent & Sussex Deanery and Oxford Radcliffe Trust in England after graduating in 1998 in India. Dr. Thaivalappil further pursued his higher specialist training in respiratory medicine at Wales Deanery, where he worked across Wales. He holds board certifications (CCT) in both General Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine, accredited by the General Medical Council (UK) in 2014.
In pursuit of excellence in sleep medicine and ventilation, Dr. Thaivalappil completed a Royal College of Physician-accredited Post-CCT Fellowship at the renowned Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, known for its expertise in lung and heart care.
During his tenure at Swansea Bay University Health Board in the UK, Dr. Thaivalappil served as a consultant physician in respiratory medicine and general internal medicine. He played a pivotal role in establishing and leading sleep medicine and ventilation services, focusing on providing specialized care for individuals experiencing breathing disorders. Dr. Thaivalappil spearheaded the creation of a dedicated Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) unit and home mechanical ventilation services to cater to the needs of patients. He also held the position of Head of the Department for Respiratory Medicine at Morriston Hospital. Furthermore, his contributions extended to serving as a Wales National Respiratory Medicine training organizer and performing educational and clinical supervision duties for medical undergraduates, foundation trainees, core medical trainees, and higher specialist trainee doctors throughout his career.
Dr. Thaivalappil's has been published in various esteemed medical journals, where he has contributed to clinical research. He is a distinguished Member and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK). Notably, he holds the distinction of being the first doctor in the UK to complete a Royal College of Physicians accredited post-CCT Fellowship in Sleep Medicine and Ventilation.
Prior to joining Mubadala Health, Dr. Thaivalappil served as a consultant in respiratory medicine and general internal medicine at Swansea Bay University Health Board in the UK.
