Dr. Banerjee is a gastroenterologist with more than 16 years of experience. He joins us from the NHS (National Health Service) UK where he had dual accreditation (CCT) in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine from GMC (General Medical Council) and accreditation (FEBGH) in Gastroenterology & Hepatology from EUMS (European Union of Medical Specialties).
He served as a consultant gastroenterologist with a subspecialty in pancreaticobiliary medicine at the regional Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary (HPB) unit of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. He was also the education and training lead for junior and higher specialty trainees in gastroenterology and was responsible for managing their training.
His fellowship at St. James's Hospital, Leeds, was in advanced pancreaticobiliary medicine and interventional endoscopy.
His research on endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) fine needle aspiration (FNA) diagnostic yield and accuracy received the award for best oral presentation at the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland's conference in Manchester. He has presented abstracts at every significant gastroenterology conference, including the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG), the United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW), and Digestive Disease Week (DDW).
His study on the use of fecal calprotectin was cited in a joint position statement by the Neurogastroenterology & Motility and the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) sections of the British Society of Gastroenterology regarding the role of fecal calprotectin in primary care.
Endoscopic procedures performed by Dr. Banerjee include but are not limited to, diagnostic and therapeutic esophagogastroduodenoscopy (OGD), diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopies, capsule endoscopy, polypectomies and EMR, dilatation and stents, and hemorrhoidal ligation. He also does pancreaticobiliary endoscopy - Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) - including EUS-guided interventions and local cancer staging with tissue sampling.
